A lot of people have been asking me this question: Why do you like to take photographs?
Perhaps they do not understand why a person can be so passionate about something he/she really loves. To tell the truth, I really hate to answer this question. Most of the time, I stumble and end up giving cheeky answers to avoid further questioning, or rather interrogation. However, I have finally decided to make use of this medium to convey my thoughts about my passion and hopefully, spread my love for photography to more people around me.
How should I begin...? When did I first begin to like the camera? I'm not too sure. Maybe it happened when I was young. I had always like the idea of using the camera to make a record of people's faces. When I grew older, my love for photography kinda subsided and I was more involved in drama. That was also the time when I started to develop an ambition to become a movie director. Then, it dawned on me that perhaps my ambition was too far-fetched. I wasn't sure of the path that was leading me. No wait, why is the path leading me? Why can't I be the person creating the path for myself? Hmm... eventually, I made the decision not to take up filmography in a polytechnic and landed myself in a JC. Afterwhich, I start to realise that my camera has not left me. I found my love for photography back in me again and it stayed on until now. To what extent do I love taking photographs? For example: Recently, a post-exam activity was organised for the students. I went along with them to the Kallang basin where they had a great time learning how to row the dragon boat. Some people felt that it was a pity that I did not go down with them to play. To me, it was an opportunity to take photographs of course! I did not consider it to be a pity at all. What is important for me is to capture the moments and the varied expressions on their faces. After that, there is still another round when they see their photos being taken. Haha... I love to see their expressions when they look at the photographs. I have always liked to stand aside to observe people. The human face is full of emotions and that is why I love to take people shots. My photographs expresses the feelings of the people at that moment in time. In addition, it is also my form of expression because it was me who decides what to include in the photographs and what not. This is my love for photography.
